Blending of tea is an art more than science. It is for people who try to get a bit adventurous on the path of tea making. It is also for people who want to break the monotony of the same way of making tea. There are different varieties of tea available in the market today. But the most commonly brewed is the black tea, which is also the favourite of most of the tea lovers.

  • The first rule is that there are no rules. There is no thumb rule stating that it has to be mixed only in a certain proportion, or only certain flavours need to be blended. It is all about trying out new things till you get a good result. The best part is that you will not know what you would end up creating.
  • The more the knowledge of the flavours, the better it is. There are many people in the world who have literally spent years in learning about all the flavours of the tea. As you learn more about each flavour, it becomes easier for you to make blends and create different tastes. When you master the art of identifying flavours, you will easily make out the presence and absence of such flavours in a cup of tea. Also, you will end up stocking up some of the most exotic flavours of the world’s tea, which will make the rarest of such collection.
  • You might not believe, but flavours do workout in a very mysterious way. So don’t hold yourself back, when you want to add lemon grass or strawberries to your blend. Be open in your experiments.
  • Always try to use dry ingredients in your blends. The dry things tend to be more concentrated than the fresh ones. For instance, when you have the rose petals of your flower vase, do not throw them, let it get completely dry and use it in your tea.
  • Try to taste the flavours and ingredients to be added separately first. So that their taste stays in your mind and help you in gauging, with which flavour can it be blended well.
  • One of the expert advice is that always blend ingredients of the same density and size or else when such things are blended together, they block the addition of any other flavour, by settling down at the bottom.
  • When spices are used, try to crush them and use. Flowers should be used as small buds or individual petals. If dry fruits are used, chopping them is the best option.
  • During the blending ensure that the maximum portion of the combination is the tea. At least 2/3 of the blended result should be tea. Keep in mind that the ingredients to be added should not be as strong as the tea.
