What Makes Georgia a Destination for the Film Industry?

Georgia is a vast and incredible state that has everything from beaches to deep gorgeous mountains.  If you’ve watched movies in the last 20 years, chances are you’ve seen the peach icon show up in the credits, stating that some portion of it was filmed in Georgia, but why do productions choose this state?

These are the top things that make Georgia such an awesome destination for the film industry!

Gorgeous Natural Surroundings

If you’ve ever looked at Atlanta houses for sale, you’ve probably been stunned by how green this area is: even within city limits.  The surrounding areas are mountains, forests, and natural beauty as far as the eye can see.  Southwestern Georgia has beautiful plains and open spaces, and eastern Georgia has beaches and islands that surprise most people who don’t know the state.

This all means that there’s a large selection of areas to film and tons of choices for any company that wants to find the best location possible.

A Large Tax Incentive

Georgia’s Entertainment Industry Investment Act offers a 20% tax credit to any film companies that spend $500,000 or more on production and post-production in Georgia.  This is a huge discount in an already affordable state to film in.  This extends to anything from feature films, television series, music videos, and even commercials and games.  This has been a great incentive that’s pulled countless productions into the state.

More Diverse Populations

Georgia is an incredibly diverse state and offers more to casting directors than they could find in California or Vancouver.  This means more varied stories can be told, and actors can be found from almost any background the production needs.  Casting directors enjoy the ease of filling the roles, and production companies like that don’t have to fly stars out from California every time they need a role filled.

Tons of Film Services Available

There’s a lot of industry in Georgia that’s been built around film!  This means countless set design companies, hair and makeup businesses, performer trailer companies, and so much more.  This makes it far easier to film in than most other southern states and allows film companies to get everything they need easily.   A good interaction with a company can give studios good enough of a reason to stay in the area and continue to bring money into the state through the film industry.

Longer Warm Seasons for Filming

Although it’s easy to simply time movies for summer when there are fewer weather complications: in Georgia, you don’t have to worry as much about winter coming in and ruining the set.  Georgia has long and warm summers that can allow filming to go on for over eight months straight with only rain interrupting.  This allows film crews to do entire seasons of shows like The Walking Dead back to back.

There’s Nowhere Quite Like Georgia

Georgia is a fantastic state for the filming industry.  Not only is this a diverse and incredible state full of opportunity, but it’s also cost-effective!
