There are many women who run for a risk of depression when they are pregnant. Those who have already had a depression in past may experience it again when they are expecting a baby.

If one is in depression while pregnant then they can always go for an anti depressant pill and it is also safe because medical studies have revealed that there is a very rare chance of facing risks due to these pills.

But whether one should take those anti depressants or not can be determined a doctor. So when a depression pangs take place one needs to consult their gynaecologist and a psychiatrist first. They might also recommend some other therapies first before prescribing any kind of pills.

In fact, as per the doctors they go for a light psychotherapy or a group therapy when the woman is facing moderate depression. This can actually bring out some positive results. Bu if a pregnant woman is suffering from major depression then there is a risk of relapse if medication and anti depression pills are stopped suddenly. So, it is a good idea to treat them always with some mild anti depressants.

As everyone knows that with pregnancy comes excitement, joy and happiness of welcoming a new life. But at the same time, for some it comes with depression and certain conditions which can bring the mother at risk along with the growing child inside. According to studies, more than 10 percent of pregnant women feel a rush of emotions when they are expecting a baby. Some of those emotions are not happy but of anxiety, sadness and hopelessness. This can lead to a major loss of appetite and they also face problems while sleeping.

But again, as it has been said earlier, depression can very much is treated even when one is pregnant either with therapies or with medication. Doctors always try to keep the future mothers away from pills if one is having mild depression. But if medication is necessary then it has to be prescribed. Some women may refuse to eat food and so they do not gain proper weight and the baby also does not get proper nutrition if the mother is not eating well. If this is happening due to depression pangs then it has to be treated well.

If depression remains untreated then it can be very harmful. This is because it can harm the woman’s ability to take care of herself. In fact, they might lack appetite and can increase the intake of alcohol, tobacco and drugs. If the woman is pregnant at the same time then it can be very dangerous for the child because it can lead to premature labour and low birth weight of the babies. Also if the baby is born they can suffer from unusual stress and they become sensitive.

Sometimes the mothers also face depression after pregnancy and that can also be treated with anti depressants because it will not affect the baby even if they are breastfeeding.
